Railcars for sale or lease
Morning Star, MREX 151
Built by Pullman in 1914 as an El Paso & Southwestern coach, Reconfigured in 1925 as Southern Pacific Business Car 104 “San Jose”. Later transferred to the SSW “Cotton Belt” and renamed “Pine Bluff”. The car has 2 master bedrooms and a secretary’s bedroom. It has a crew room for 2 along with its own shower. The crew room is adjacent to the kitchen/pantry at the front of the car. It has a dining room between the kitchen and the bedrooms. The rear lounge has an additional sofa berth and there is a hidden berth in the dining room. The car sleeps 7 plus 2 crew. The unique part about the interior is that it is decorated using Honduran mahogany throughout the entire car. The only exception is the rear lounge which is finished in walnut from the Ardennes forest. Both of these rare and fine woods are now extinct.
The car has full 480 volt HEP, 27 pin comm., 27 pin locomotive MU and has a current PC-2 inspection. A PC-2a and PC-1 inspection and the car can move Amtrak. The windows are all new FRA type I and II with new gaskets. Car is equipped with microphor toilets and water treatment type tanks. A modern 480 volt Safety-Stone air conditioning unit is included in the purchase price with mounting under car.
Pacific Spray, MREX 2888
Budd Built 1950 as a 10 Roomette-6 Double Bedroom sleeper for Union Pacific’s “City of Everywhere” trains as UP 1442. Car later became Amtrak 2635 and later Heritage Amtrak 2888. The car has had the interior Paint stripped for restoration back to original as built colors. The interior is not completed although a lot of the tough work is done already. This car could easily be reconfigured as a sleeper/lounge/diner or as a business type floor plan. Amtrak PC-2 qualification would need to be completed for Amtrak private car service. With COT&S car could move in freight service. The car is equipped with ABDW brake system and Outside Swing Hanger Disc Brake trucks. AP-EE 6 x 11 wheels, 480 HEP and 27 Pin Communication.
Travelers Rest II, MREX 5511 (Amtrak 800858)
Budd Built 1961 as a coach for Union Pacific’s “City of Everywhere” trains as UP 5511. Car later became Amtrak 4443 and later Heritage Amtrak 4644. The car has had the coach interior removed to be converted to a Parlor/Lounge configuration. The interior is not completed.
The car body is Amtrak PC-2 qualified and with interior retrofit could go into service relatively soon. The car is equipped with 26-C brake system and Outside Swing Hanger Disc Brake trucks. The trucks were in service recently under another car. The trucks would need to have a current PC-2 “refresher” to be able to move on Amtrak. All AP-EE 6 x 11 wheels, 480 HEP and 27 Pin Communication. Not much work would be necessary to have a complete Amtrak qualified Lounge/Parlor car. With COT&S car would be ready to move in freight service.
Pride of Texas, MREX 10410
Budd Built 1950 as a 32 seat Diner16 seat Lounge for Southern Pacific’s “Sunset Limited” trains as a “Pride of Texas” Coffee shop car, SP 10410. Car later became Amtrak 8323. The car has had the interior Paint stripped for restoration back to original as built colors. The interior is not completed although a lot of the tough work is done already. This car could easily be competed as built. Most of the important Kitchen equipment is still intact. The car still has all the original fixtures and the quarter circle bar. Amtrak PC-2 qualification would need to be completed for Amtrak private car service. The car is equipped with D-22 brake system and Inside Swing Hanger Disc Brake trucks. All new Timken K-type 6 x 11 wheels. Does not have 480 HEP or 27 Pin Communication.
